The first version of Disney Infinity featured characters from Disney and Pixar movies like Monsters Inc. and Pirates of the Caribbean. The second wave ventured into the Marvel universe with superheroic characters such as Spider-Man, the Avengers, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Infinity 3.0 releases this fall with three planned Star Wars playsets: one focused on the prequels/Clone Wars era, one set during the original trilogy, and one set during the “30 years later” period of the upcoming Force Awakens. Now it seems another popular Star Wars property is entering the mix: the Star Wars Rebels animated series.
The Twilight of the Republic playset will be part of the Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack. Set during the Clone Wars era, the new playset will let Infinity players take control of characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and Darth Maul. Star Wars Rebels bridges the gap between the Clone Wars years and the events of A New Hope, so the characters don’t fit neatly into either the Twilight of the Republic playset or the original trilogy-era Rise Against the Empire. The solution, apparently, is to put them into both. The fine print on these images from Geek Tyrant reveals that the Star Wars Rebels characters will appear in both of the first two Infinity 3.0 Star Wars playsets.
Star Wars Rebels is set five years before A New Hope and 14 years after Revenge of the Sith, in an era when the Empire holds a tight grip on the galaxy. Ezra Bridger, a con artist, crosses paths with Kanan Jarrus, a former Jedi padawan in hiding. Kanan and his companions - the fearless pilot Hera, the Mandalorian explosives expert Sabine, and the gruff alien Zeb - form a small cell in the budding Rebel Alliance. After Kanan realizes that Ezra is Force sensitive, he reluctantly takes the kid under his wing. Together, Kanan’s crew sets out to make the Imperial forces’ lives as difficult as possible.
From the looks of these shots, Infinity will include Ezra, Kanan, Sabine, and Zeb. Hera is nowhere to be seen, but it’d be very surprising if she gets left out entirely.
The Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack will retail for $65 this fall. The Rise Against the Empire playset will be available separately, and will let gamers play as classic Star Wars characters such as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca. The Force Awakens set will presumably arrive sometime after the release of the film itself, which hits theaters on December 18, 2015.
