Soon, however, gamers will finally be able to see Star Wars Battlefront in full, as the project has now been officially confirmed for next month’s Star Wars Celebration (April 16-19). There was speculation that Battlefront might make an appearance after EA announced plans to attend the Star Wars themed event, and rather than beat around the bush the publisher decided to confirm those rumors.
Although excitement for Star Wars Battlefront has been high since its initial announcement at E3 2014, developer DICE has kept relatively quiet. They did, however, promise to say more about the game in spring 2015, and now it appears that time has come. More importantly, it’s time to see how Star Wars Battlefront lives up to fan expectations.
That being said, we still have no idea what Electronic Arts plans to show at the Star Wars Celebration. We figure the event will, at the very least, feature a new trailer with first official gameplay footage, but outside of that it’s anyone’s guess. However, with E3 2015 only two months after Star Wars Celebration, we’re sure that EA wants to save some of their bigger reveals for that event, while still giving Star Wars fans something to be excited about.
Ideally, we’d like to get a sense for how DICE plans to evolve the multiplayer concepts of Star Wars Battlefront to fit current-gen console power. Past games were impressive in terms of scope and scale, but those were on platforms far weaker than the ones available today. Obviously, those new consoles will help Battlefront’s visuals, but we hope that isn’t the only area that feels “new.”
It might be a little ambitious, but we’d love to be able to stage battles on the surface of planets and in space simultaneously. DICE has shown flashes of that with aerial and ground combat, but this would obviously be much more challenging.
Whatever DICE does choose to show, though, is sure to be met with careful optimism because of Battlefield 4’s launch struggles. Fans will want to be excited, but they will also have lingering questions in the background. Hopefully this presentation can do enough to keep the focus on how great the game looks.
