An interview with legendary game creator Shigeru Miyamoto was posted on Time Magazine this morning prior to Nintendo’s presentation. The feature reveals that a new Star Fox game is coming to the Wii U. The interview, which has since been removed at Nintendo’s request, explains Miyamoto’s involvement in the development of the currently unannounced game…

“But Miyamoto and his team have added a new vehicle mode, one that’s designed to exemplify the new motion control scheme: It lets up to two players pilot a helicopter-like craft, one player controlling the helicopter itself, the other controlling a tiny robot you can drop from a tether to roll around a limited area, either snatching up booty or blasting enemies. Leave the robot hanging as you fly around the battlefield and it becomes a kind of dangling, swingable cannon.”

It’s not surprising to see the team behind the game taking advantage of the Gamepad’s technology, but it should lead to a fairly different flight experience that the ones that nostalgic Star Fox fans recall. We’ll be interested to see if the motion controlled flight mechanics function well or if they end up feeling a bit gimmicky.

Until Nintendo streams their presentation, we are still in the realm of rumors here. That said, the photo and the details included in Time’s feature all seem to suggest that this is a sure thing.

Check back for our livestream of the Nintendo presentation to (hopefully) hear the official announcement later today.
