To give gamers a taste for Star Citizen’s first-person shooter components, developer Cloud Imperium Games will soon release a module called Star Marine. The module will give players a chance to experience the game’s shooter elements, while also providing some feedback for the developer. In essence, the module will act as a sort of beta for the FPS aspect of the game.

The developer is looking to get similar feedback that it did from its dogfighting module, Arena Commander, which allowed players to get a feel for Star Citizen’s flight mechanics. Roberts offered some thoughts about the new module and how it relates to Arena Commander, along with the developer’s ambition for the project:

From Roberts’ description, it sounds like the Star Marine module will be comparable to almost any current first-person shooter game in both size and scope. That’s an impressive feat, and helps us better understand the massive size of the full Star Citizen game. It also makes us wonder when Star Citizen will actually release, since it will basically be a melding of numerous regular-size games.

Fortunately, it looks like Roberts and the rest of the team at Cloud Imperium Games understand the work needed to achieve their vision for Star Citizen, and are expanding appropriately. In his update, Roberts shared that they are making internal additions and changes to keep up the development’s tempo, while maintaining stability and progress. It’ll be interesting to see how this continues to evolve as the developer gets closer to completion.
