In each Splatfest in Splatoon 3, players choose from one of three teams, each represented by one member of the in-game band Deep Cut, that they will play for in the game’s signature Turf War battles. Each Splatfest is themed around a certain topic with the current one being food-themed and having players choose Team Spicy represented by Shiver, Team Sweet headed by Frye, or Team Sour led by Big Man. Once a Splatfest reaches halftime after 24 hours, the game’s unique TriColor Turf Wars will begin, now bringing all three teams to duke it out on one stage, a major change compared to typical battles. TriColor Turf Wars will continue until the Splatfest ends after 48 total hours.

The current Splatoon 3 Splatfest started January 6 at 7 p.m. EST and reached halftime the following day, launching the start of TriColor Turf Wars. In anticipation of these battles, a Splatoon 3 fan made cookies designed to look like the game’s Inkling characters when in squid form, some with unique sprinkles on their tentacles. These cookies were made in a light purple color, the same color used by Team Sweet in Splatfest Turf War battles.
Other Splatoon 3 fans in the comments of the Reddit post jokingly suggested adding jalapenos or lemons to the cookies to make them more appealing to members of Team Spicy and Team Sour. Cookies are a fitting food of choice for a member of Team Sweet even if cookies are not present in the game despite Splatoon 3 food and drink tickets letting the player consume foods in exchange for multiplayer boosts for abilities, money, or XP.
Seasonal events have become something of a necessity for modern multiplayer games, often as a way to ensure a game’s player base remains interested in the game. Splatfests have been the Splatoon games’ answer to this need since the series’ first title in 2015. Splatoon 3’s Big Run upped the ante by adding an event centered around the Salmon Run mode first introduced in Splatoon 2, giving a good variety to the game’s events. Splatoon 2 had over two dozen Splatfests over the course of three years, and with Splatoon 3 having only three Splatfests since launch, fans will surely have more to enjoy as the game continues to evolve.
Splatoon 3 is available now for Nintendo Switch.
