Splatoon 3 has had three Splatfests thus far, one of which was a pre-release event. In Splatfests, players join one of three teams and compete in Turf War battles to earn points for their team over the course of a couple of days with the winner determined at the end of the event. Splatoon 3’s Splatfests are notable for having three teams rather than two like in previous games. The next Splatoon 3 Splatfest will start next month and will be food themed with players choosing between Spicy, Sweet, or Sour.

Previous Splatfests have featured crossovers with other Nintendo properties such as the Super Smash Bros. and Mario Splatfests in Splatoon 2, as well as the aforementioned Pokemon Splatfest in Splatoon 3. Crossovers have been a popular request from the Splatoon fanbase, particularly for series that are prominent on the Nintendo Switch. One fan on Reddit has an idea for a Splatfest themed after The Legend of Zelda with the teams being named after the three pieces of the Triforce: Wisdom, Power, and Courage.
Users in the comments of the post discussed what this Splatfest might look like in practice. One user remarked that a good time for it would be in the weeks leading up to the release date of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in May 2023. If a Splatfest like this were to happen, it would be the first time in the Splatoon series that a Splatfest is themed after The Legend of Zelda, a potentially notable event considering just how popular both franchises are on the Nintendo Switch.
Splatoon 3 is already one of the highest-selling Switch games in recent memory, but it has the potential of reaching even more people by doing more crossovers. This would not be new for the series as Nintendo has done Splatoon crossovers with properties like Hello Kitty and SpongeBob SquarePants. However, a more obvious and likely easier approach would be to include more Nintendo properties in Splatfests. The Legend of Zelda is an obvious candidate, but Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Kirby, and Metroid have all had successful mainline entries on the Switch and would work great as themes for Splatfests. Splatoon 3 is still a fairly new game, so there is still plenty of time to see if Nintendo will tap into this potential.
Splatoon 3 is available now for Nintendo Switch.
