Transpiring both in the present and the 2099 Marvel Universe, Spider-Man: Edge of Time casts the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler in an “urgent, high-stakes experience where time is working against you and the fate of Spider-Man hangs in the balance,” according to Beenox’s Dee Brown. Activision Blizzard’s synopsis of Edge of Time gets right to the point:

The newest trailer for the game lays things out clearly enough, offering a look at Edge of Time’s story, rendered cutscenes, and gameplay. Check it out.

It’s no secret that the stakes have been raised for superhero games. Batman: Arkham Asylum took the genre to a new level of popularity and critical success, and the follow up – Batman: Arkham City – is due this fall. This year, we’ve already seen Thor: God of Thunder, and Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters isn’t far off. How will Spider-Man: Edge of Time match up?

Activision Blizzard clearly has a lot of faith in developer Beenox, having made them the sole developers for the property after solid reviews for Shattered Dimensions. Previous screenshots and trailers for Edge of Time have shown a game that looks like its predecessor, perhaps to a fault. Still, if the developers can leverage the strengths of Shattered Dimensions while cleaning up the rough spots, Edge of Time could prove to be worth a look during the crowded holiday gaming season.

What do you think of your latest look at Spider-Man: Edge of Time? Are you looking forward to the game?

Spider-Man: Edge of Time will be available this Fall on all major platforms.
