According to the official financial report from Sega, Sonic Generations will also be available on the PC and the Nintendo 3DS. Sega released a chart detailing all of their upcoming titles, and there were only two 3DS games on the list: Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Sonic Generations. This was a little baffling, since the game had only been previously announced for the 360 and PS3.

The financial report also stated that Sega had an extremely successful year, in which their profits more than doubled when compared to the previous year. Such a successful year could also be the reason that they may have possibly green-lit the title for development on Nintendo’s new handheld. Of course, a handheld version of the game could have simply been a misprint in the report, but one would assume that Sega would triple check the facts that they planned on showing off to investors.

Sega has confirmed in the past that they were already developing a Sonic the Hedgehog game for the Nintendo 3DS, so it’s not overly shocking to learn that Sonic Generations could be coming to the portable. The game seems like it would be a perfect fit for the new game too, with a D-Pad for the classic side-scrolling portions and the Circle Pad for those looking for a little bit more precision in the 3D areas.

Maybe Sega’s E3 surprise was blown a little prematurely, but if that’s the case then we should likely see it highlighted at Nintendo’s E3 Press Event within the next few weeks.

Would you purchase Sonic Generations for your Nintendo 3DS? Do you think the game will work well on a handheld?
