Nintendo may not have even mentioned the upcoming handheld brawler, but some images were teased at the end of the latest Kid Icarus: Uprising trailer.
Since Project Sora (which has maintained several key members of Smash’s original developer HAL) is the team behind previous Smash Bros. games — and more importantly the current developers of Kid Icarus: Uprising — it makes complete sense that the screenshots are that of Smash Bros. 3DS.
The images don’t reveal too much about which game they’re associated with - but some of the distorted menus may look a little familiar to those who played Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Even if very little information can be obtained by looking at the screenshots, they still offer enough blurry content to speculate on — which should give fans of the franchise something to do until more concrete news comes forth.
At E3 2011, Nintendo announced that Smash Bros. would be coming to both the Wii U and 3DS. Unfortunately, these announcements were a little premature, and the last word we got from Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai was that the games were “several years away” from release. Further more, it was reported that neither game had yet to even enter development at the time of their announcement - and development wouldn’t begin until Kid Icarus: Uprising had been completed.
However, it would appear that the Big N has pushed development forward in order to get the extremely popular franchise onto the 3DS to help generate some revenue as soon as humanly possible. That may or may not be good news for fans looking forward to Super Smash Bros. 3DS, but as long as Sakurai is leading the game’s development there shouldn’t be too many worries.
